Champion's Day @ CAN Wonderland

Though only a few tumblers went to the Gymnastics Ontario hosted Champion's Day at Canada's Wonderland those who did had a great time.

Emma Chau and Luke Mackinnon, the OGC's own Tumbling Provincial Champions, were in attendance for the morning ceremony where some special awards were given out and inspirational talks were delivered by two of our gymnastics community stars. Emily Smith, a Senior Tumbler from Burlington spoke about believing in yourself in order to achieve success in gymnastics. Emily won the first ever World Cup medals in tumbling for Canada and is known as one of the World's best female tumblers. As well Karen Cockburn, three-time Olympic trampoline medalist, spoke about how to deal with pressure and how to enjoy the experience of participating in the Olympics.

After the ceremony it was a free for all at the park.

Also in attendance for the group photo were two of the OGC's Women's Artistic Provincial Champions: Jordyn Pederson and Kathryn Doran.

Run for the Cure

Usually I wouldn't put something like this on the blog but in this case I am making an exception. I hope I do not offend anyone by doing so.

As some of you may know but most will not, my mother, Connie Holmes, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer last January. She has undergone a mastectomy and endured a spring and summer of chemo treatments. Together as a family we have worked to provide support for my mother through this difficult time. Our efforts will culminate in this year's Run for the Cure where I will be running with my sisters and extended family.

As is part of the Run for the Cure I am gathering donations to support cancer research. I am asking for donations, small or large to be submitted either to me directly or through the office at the OGC. From a toonie to a 20, all donations are welcome and appreciated.

Cancer touches so many of our lives and it is up to us to work together to support those who suffer from it's affects. Even within our tumbling program there are those who are suffering now and who have suffered in the past. Undoubtedly there will be those who will suffer in the future. We will be there for them as well.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post and I would like to offer a big thank you to those who decide to donate.

Don

Sept Sched UPDATE

Here is an UPDATED SEPTEMBER SCHEDULE.

Yup. I only had it up for a week and a change needed to be made.

Developmental 2, Kelsey's group will be starting at 5:30pm instead of 5:00pm. The class will finish at 7:30pm instead of 7:00pm on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Amanda's Developmental 3 group will be starting at 5:00pm on Monday and Wednesdays instead of 5:30pm. These classes will finish at 7:30pm instead of 8:00pm.

In an effort to facilitate the gym loading and work our tumbling program schedule in conjunction with the recreational program we have had to make this small change. We understand how difficult the scheduling of your family activities is and we appreciate your cooperation. You must also understand that we at the OGC have to schedule approximately 1400 bodies through the gym per week and we try to provide the optimal experience for all.

My apologies for the change.

Champion's Day @ Canada's Wonderland

Every year Gymnastics Ontario has it's day at Canada's Wonderland. It is called Champion's Day as they have a morning presentation recognizing all of the Provincial Champions in all of the gymnastics disciplines. Provincial Champions get in for free, lucky them.

The rest of us are invited to join in and have a fun filled day at the park.

Here is the flyer with ticket information provided. Feel free to invite family and friends of gymnastics.

Please make all ticket purchases directly through Gymnastics Ontario and not the OGC office.

Hope to see you there and congratulations to Luke Mackinnon and Emma Chau our 2010 Tumbling Provincial Champions.

Active Rest Homework

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are enjoying your two weeks off from the gym.

Don't want you to get too lethargic so I'm posting this Active Rest checklist for all the tumblers to complete this week as we get ready to go back to school and back to the gym.

Feel free to make it a family thing. It's pretty simple but should keep you going for the next little bit.

More info to come so keep your eyes on the blog.
