RE-TRYOUTS What you should know

Tumbling Re-Tryouts 2008

Thank you for participating in the power tumbling program over the past 2007/2008 season. All Developmental and Provincial Level athletes must take part in the Re-Tryout in order to gain acceptance back into the Tumbling Program.

During the tryout we will be assessing physical strength, coordination, flexibility, listening, and attitude. All of these are important aspects of a good athlete but listening and attitude are by far the most important. As well we will be reviewing the past season with regards to your athletes performance in and out of the gym as well as the level of commitment demonstrated by both the athlete and the athlete’s family.

Once the tryout is complete we will be providing you with one of 4 options:

Option 1: Acceptance into the competitive program and an offer to join a specific competitive group.

Option 2: Placement on a waiting list in rank order. If an athlete chooses not to accept their placement in the
program we will invite the next athlete on the list.

Option 3: A suggestion to continue in the recreational program and tryout again at a later date. Possibly your
athlete does not have the skill set required to be placed back into a competitive group and we think more time in the recreational classes would be beneficial.

Option 4: A suggestion to continue in the recreational program for fun and fitness. Based on the athletes
performance we will let you know if another tryout at a later date would be of benefit.

Call Backs: Some athletes will be invited to attend a Call Back tryout. If you are invited to the Call Back this means that we are considering your child but feel we need to see them one more time in a direct comparison with some of the new athletes from the Open Tryouts. Not being invited to the Call Backs does not mean you are not being offered a spot it simply means that we would like to see your child one more time for another assessment.

If you are offered a space in the program you will be required to register as a competitive athlete. There are several responsibilities that competitive athletes and families have. These involve assisting in competition hosting, fundraising, volunteer hours and bingos. In order for athletes to remain in the competitive program we require a good attendance record and a commitment to our program. Those who are unable to meet the requirements will be let go and the next athlete on the waiting list will be invited to participate. The number of training hours ranges from 4 hours in the youngest Developmental Group to 20 hours in the Senior National Elite level. Most levels train for 6 to 8 hours per week divided into three classes: two after school or evening classes and one Sunday class.

1 year commitment: Please, also, note that your invitation into the Tumbling program is a 1 year commitment. At the end of the 2008/2009 competitive season all athletes in the Developmental and Provincial tumbling levels will be required to tryout again in order to regain entrance into the following season’s program.

If you are NOT offered a space in the program we would like to thank you for your dedication and commitment to the tumbling program over the past season or several seasons. Not gaining a spot in the program also does not mean that you are prevented from trying out again the follow year or from looking at neighboring clubs that offer tumbling programs. This years tryouts will be extremely competitive.

We are committed to creating a high quality program here at the OGC and feel that it is necessary to re-evaluate our participants each season. There are a limited number of spaces available and those who have best demonstrated those traits that we have outlined will be offered a space in the program.

Please note that there will be NO APPEALS accepted to the decisions made by the Tumbling Program staff and myself.

Group Meetings will be arranged for the week of June 9th to 13th. Please see the bulletin board or the blog for details. If you have any additional questions feel free to contact me.

Thank you for participating,

Don Holmes
OGC T&T Program Director

Summer Schedule QUICK NOTE

Just wanted to let you all know that we have decided that the entire tumbling program will be taking the same two weeks off this summer.

Wednesday, June 25th will be the last day of regular training in June. Thursday, June 26th and Friday, June 27th the club will be shutting down for gym maintenance.

Wednesday, July 2nd Summer Classes will begin. We will take the Monday and Tuesday off that week due to the Canada Day being on the Tuesday.

Saturday, July 19th to Tuesday, August 5th the tumbling program will not be training.

A complete schedule of training times and athlete groups will be posted on Friday, May 30th.

Apology

I would just like to apologize to everyone for not having a chance to put up results in a timely fashion. I have found that I am a bit run off my feet this year preparing for one thing after another. Posting results has taken a backseat to completing the dissemination of logistical information. I will get the results up soon. I promise. I hope.

With the tryouts this week we have over 55 new athletes trying out and only about 8 to 10 spots to fill. I hope all the athletes have been working hard to prepare for their tryouts.

Just a recap:

May 22nd OPEN TRYOUTS

May 27th Provincial Level Re-Tryouts

May 28th Developmental Level Re-Tryouts

May 29th Call Backs for those invited

Victoria Day Monday

Just wanted to let you know that the Victoria Day Monday training is still a go. There had been some talk that I would NOT be able to run the classes due to the recreational centre being closed. I have been given the go ahead on the condition that we entre and exit via the doors facing the Glen Abby Gate street. I will put up signs for you.
Do not try to entre via the glass doors.
As well there will be no viewing.

No parents will be permitted in the gym on Monday. Sorry.

Thanks for your understanding and commitment to the tumbling program.

See you tomorrow.

2:00 to 4:00pm Developmental 2 & 4

4:00 to 6:00pm Provincial DC Don & Niki's tumblers

6:00 to 8:00pm the usual Youth & National Elite Groups together

All classes will be coached by Don

TRYOUTS, CALL BACKS & QUESTIONS

There have been some questions as to what exactly each athlete needs to do with regards to TRYOUTS, RE-TRYOUTS, and CALL BACKS.

If you are in a Developmental Class or Inter Club but training in a Provincial Group you must attend the Developmental RE-TRYOUT on Wednesday, May 28th from 4:30 to 6:30pm. You will be tested against the other developmental tumblers. Some of the athletes will be invited to the Call Backs on May 29th to be re-tested against the best of the athletes from the Open Tryout.

If you are not invited to the Call Backs it means one of two things:

1) you are back in and your spot is safe

or

2) you are not being offered a spot in the program next year

If you are invited to the Call Backs you may be offered a spot or put on a waiting list.

Provincial Level tumblers or Provincial Level tumblers who train in the National group must attend the Provincial Level RE-TRYOUT on Tuesday, May 27th from 4:30 to 6:30pm.

If you are presently in the tumbling program you do not need to participate in the OPEN TRYOUT on May 22nd.

We have over 50 bodies registered for the open tryout. We have about 8 spots to fill in the tumbling program. Please remind your athlete to work hard over the next few trainings to prepare for the tryouts.

***Do NOTE that your performance, work-ethic, effort, dedication, participation and skill acquisition over the entire year will also be included in your evaluation. As well we take into consideration how the families of tumblers have been a part of the process. This includes how parents/guardians participated, stayed on top of resposibilities, and supported their athlete's progress as a tumbler.

Good luck. Please let me know if there are any conflicts. We will try to be accommodating but can only do so much.

Thanks!

MAY SCHEDULE whole thing

Here it is. The whole schedule. I apologize for the fact that is now almost May 5th and you are just seeing it now.

Things to note:

Mother's Day we do have training. Please e-mail me or your specific coach to let them know if your tumbler will be away for Mother's Day.

Victoria Day Weekend there is no training on the Sunday. Monday I will be doing some Make Up classes as the rest of the month is a bit messed up due to Tryouts and Re-Tryouts. I apologize for cutting into your holiday weekend. It cuts into mine too. Please note that on the 19th the gym viewing area will be closed so you will have to drop off and pick up your child from the sliding glass doors.

OPEN TRYOUTS

PROVINCIAL RE-TRYOUTS

DEVELOPMENTAL RE-TRYOUTS

CALL BACKS

PHOTO DAY

EASTERN CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

There are several time changes, make ups, substitute coaches and quirks in this schedule. My apologies. You will receive paper copies of this schedule this week with your specific May schedule highlighted so that the confusion of classes and times is not so convoluted.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

May Schedule HALF OF IT

Sorry. I am still working to get supply coaches for some groups. I felt I should put out at least some of the schedule. Here is the next week.

Developmental 3 group: I do have a coach for Wednesday. I am still trying to find out from my coaches who is going to be the best replacement for the rest of the next two months. I have a couple options but I am trying to find the best fix to this. My apologies for the way the year has turned out for this group. This is not the norm.

Picture Day

Saturday, May 24th

Don't you wish you looked soooo goooood!

HEAD LICE

WARNING

There has been a confirmed case of head-lice at the gym this past week. Please make sure to have your child checked.

For the ladies it is important that you arrive at the gym with your own hair elastics and your hair already put up. With some of the little ones I know this is hard to do but please make the effort. Try not to share hair elastics or hair brushes.
Please note that I did not cut all of my hair off this week due to the hair-lice case. It was simply coincidental.

Thanks
