TEAM Photo ERROR

My apologies for posting that the Team Photo was only for the Provincial and National Tumblers. I myself have not been at a Team Photo session in the past so I couldn't remember who was to be in it. Glad everyone showed up despite my ERROR.

We apologies for how long it took but we were glad with the turn out.

Summer and Fall Schedules

Here is the schedule for the Summer and the TENTATIVE Fall schedule.

We have tried to keep it so that people have their Fridays off as well throughout the summer.

During the Summer Andree Matte will be filling in for Niki. Niki will return to coaching in the fall. I will provide you all with a profile of Andree shortly.

As we get closer to each month we will distribute a more complete schedule.

We are planning to have a TEAM picture taken next Tuesday evening, May 26th at 7:30 p.m. There will be no individual pictures done. Agnes has notified, or will notify, everyone by email to wear their competitive suits or track suits or a nice suit, especially the little ones. Please notify your staff. For those of you who train during this time we will simply break from training for the duration of the picture taking event and then resume training.

OPEN Tryouts for 2009/2010 Season

OPEN TUMBLING TRYOUTS
THURSDAY, JUNE 4TH

For those trying out:

If you are 8 years of age or younger you need to be at the gym for 7:00pm and will be tested until 8:00pm.

If you are 9 years of age or older you need to be at the gym for 8:00pm and will be tested until 9:00pm.

Please wear appropriate gymnastics attire. Baggy shirts and shorts are not good gym attire. Wear something form fitting and able to move with you.

We will be evaluating: attitude, listening skills, behaviour, physical ability and physical potential.

If you are selected to be part of the Oakville Gymnastics Club's Power Tumbling Team for the 2009/2010 Season you will be contacted by phone and invited to attend the Parent Meeting on the following Wednesday.

If you are NOT selected you will still receive a call and provided with one of several options: Invited to tryout again in the future when more skills are acquired, Invited to continue the recreational gymnastics or trampoline and tumbling classes, or we might suggest that tumbling is not a sport that your child's aptitudes are suited for.

Prerequisites: general strength and flexibility. Cartwheels, round-offs, and standing back handsprings are a great asset as many athletes who will be trying out for the team will have these skills or better; however, this does not prevent us from selecting individuals who have raw talent and appear teachable.

You will be supplied with more detailed program information at the Open Tryout.

Please wait to ask program questions until after the Tryout.

Re-Tryouts

Everyone who is presently in a Developmental or Provincial Tumbling group is required to attend the

Re-Tryouts on Wednesday, June 3rd.

Developmental Tumblers from Amanda's, Ellie's or Ricardo's groups are expected to be at the Re-Tryout between 5:00 and 7:00pm.

Provincial Tumblers from Don's and Dave's groups are expected to be at the Re-Tryouts between 7:00 and 9:00pm.

No alternate dates for Re-Tryouts will be provided so if there is a soccer, or baseball or anyother conflict please note that this is the one time where you really need to come to the gym.

We have been evaluating you over the course of the year. The elements we are looking at include: attitude, behaviour, dedication, performance, skill development, parental willingness to participate and be involved when requested.

The Re-Tryout allows us to see all of the athletes together and to make direct comparisons between athletes from different groups. As well it allows Niki and myself to see all of those athletes that are in groups that we ourselves do not coach directly. We will be doing a direct evaluation of tumbling skills and physical fitness during the Re-Tryouts.

Most athletes will find themselves back on the team. Some athletes will not. This is part of being in competitive sport. Sometimes athletes will be cut from a team or program after several years of participation. Please understand this. We believe that all of the athletes in our program are talented individuals and will be able to find success in other aspects of their athletic careers even if it is not in tumbling in our program.

If you find your child NOT invited back next year you may request a meeting with Niki and/or I to discuss our decision but most decisions are final.

We thank everyone for participating and making the OGC Power Tumbling Team one of the strongest tumbling clubs in Canada. We are in fact the largest tumbling club in Canadian history.

Congratulations to everyone this year and all the best in the future.

June Schedule

Here is the June schedule as it stand right now.

Items to note:

Amanda will be away between the 30th of May and the 6th of June. On Sunday May 31st Ricardo will be supplying for Amanda. On Friday June 5th we will have another subsitute coach but I have not confirmed who as of yet. Amanda missed a Wednesday night class this week (May 20th) due to illness. She will be making that class up in June but we have not yet set a time. I will e-mail this Developmental group when we have firmed up a Make Up class time and date. Our apologies.

Re-Tryouts will be Wednesday, June 3rd, Developmental Tumblers are to come from 5:00 to 7:00pm and Provincial Tumblers are to come between 7:00 and 9:00pm. I will post more specific information about the Re-Tryouts.

Open Tryouts will be on Thursday, June 4th. We do not plan to have Call Backs this year.

Groups for the next season will be posted on Monday, Jun 8th.

Parent Meetings for the new groups will be the subsequent Wednesdays (Wednesday, June 10th there will be a parent meeting for all Developmental Tumblers and Families, this includes new tumblers, Wednesday, June 17th there will be a parent meeting for all Provincial and National Tumblers and Families, this includes any tumblers that will have been moved up into a provincial group from a developmental group).

The last day will be Friday, June 26th.

The summer program will start Monday, July 5th.

We will be taking the last week of June (June 29th to July 3rd) and the last two weeks of August off for summer holidays (August 24th to September 4th).

We will start back to regular Fall/Winter/Spring schedule on Thursday, September 10th.

2009/2010 Tumbling Program Summary

We have decided to change the structure of the Oakville Power Tumbling Program for the 2009/2010 season.

Please note that we have removed the Developmental 4 group. We have decided to downsize the developmental program as next year we will be having a large number of athletes trying to get into only a handful of spaces in the Provincial and National groups.

Please also note that the Developmental 3 Group will be training 8 hours instead of 6.

The Provincial D group will train 8 hours as per normal.

The Provincial CB and Provincial CBA groups will train 10 hours and will actually be co-coached by both Niki and myself like we do with the National group.

I will be providing you with a July/August Schedule shortly and a tentative September (Fall/Winter/Spring) schedule.

Please note that Dave, Ellie and Ricardo will not be coaching in the tumbling program next season. We thank them for their great work and enthusiasm coaching in the tumbling program over the past couple of seasons. I'm sure we will see them supply coaching in the future and continue to see them around the Oakville Gymnastics Club.

OGC Tumbler on Cirque Website

Just copy and paste the following search string to bring you to the Cirque Du Soleil website (or click on this link). At the top there are pictures that fade in and out of different performers. The one with the little hat and the yellow suspenders is Ryan Stephenson formerly a tumbler in the OGC tumbling program.

Ryan has been traveling in the America's for two years now and will be heading to Europe this summer with the traveling show Saltimbanco.

All the best to Ryan.

Easterns Nova Scotia Day 2.3

Easterns Nova Scotia Day 2.2

Easterns Nova Scotia Day 2.1

Like I said we had it in the bag on Day 2 of the Eastern Canadian Trampoline and Tumbling Championships.

We brought home four individual medals. Wahoo!

Haley Palmer won GOLD in the Women's 13 & Over C devision.

Kezia Allen won BRONZE in the Women's B devision.

Jack McGarr won BRONZE in the Men's B devision.

Cory Marsh won GOLD in the Men's A devision.

Josh Sardella placed 5th in the Men's B devision.
Anthony Gentili placed 6th in the Men's B devision.
Braden Currie placed 9th in the Men's B devision.

This Easterns was fantastic. Everyone had a great time, made some new friends, and competed very well.

The Acadia University was an ideal location to host the Easterns and the food was great. On Sunday morning before the competition we tried to take a little trip to Peggy's Cove but decided it was too far. Instead we slipped over to the Halifax harbour and walked around in the fog. It was nice to get out and see something other than the inside of the arena.

After the long set of awards everyone did a quick change and went to the final banquet where everyon cut loose on the dance floor.

I want to say thanks to all the OGC athletes for being well behaved and being very respectful throughout the whole trip.

As well I want to thank the parents for their cooperation and for driving us to the Halifax Harbour. We could not have done it without you.

Well done everyone. Hope you like the pics.
