Ontario Winter Games

The multi-sport Ontario Winter Games is one of the most exciting competitions tumblers are invited to participate in during the course of their tumbling careers. This years gymnastics component was hosted at Muskoka Woods Camp. We started with a Trampoline & Tumbling Team photo and then it was on to check out the venue where we found that our equipment was not set up so we decided we would remedy the situation and set it up ourselves.

After a little head scratching and heavy lifting everything was pretty much in place.

The entire team was taken by bus to the not so nearby town of Gravenhurst for the Opening Ceremonies where some 2500 athletes from 27 different sports gathered outside at the bandshell to be entertained by the Stereos, a popular new band. The ceremony finished off with some fireworks and a drive back to the camp.

Competition was fast and full of drama. The 13 tumblers who were selected to go were broken up into four teams comprised of a mix of athletes from different clubs. The four teams were named after four recent top level tumblers from Ontario: Team Smith (Emily Smith), Team Vachon (Denis Vachon), Team Sugrim (Jordan Sugrim) and Team Speed (Ashley Speed). Awards were given out to the top scoring teams not individuals so the dynamic of the competition was more relaxed.

All involved had a great time. Way to go OGC tumblers Kezia, Michael and Ricardo for putting in some exciting performances.
